WANT TO GET BEHIND THE SCENES?

Part fringe festival, part band camp, Underbelly Arts: Public Lab and Festival 2010 features scores of artists specialising in electronic and live music, new media, sculpture, theatre, sound and film production, performance and installation across a two week event.

We’re looking for a marketing/web intern to join our team for 1-2 days per week from now till mid July. You’ll be responsible for helping to upload content to our website, manage our social networking applications and manage aspects of our marketing campaign. You’ll also gain an insight into what goes on behind the scenes of a growing arts festival, and gain an insight into the creative process of close to 100 artists.

Ideally we’re looking for someone who has strong web skills and experience in social networking and blogging. If this sounds like you, please send a brief 1 page resume and/or examples of your work to clare@underbelly.com.au by Friday 28th May, 2010.

ARTIST CALL OUT

Underbelly Arts: Public Lab & Festival 2010 is calling for applications.

Underbelly Arts is a curated event, dedicated to supporting emerging and experimental artists and collectives to develop and present innovative new works to a broad public.

The event is produced in a two stage process beginning with a 10 day lab where participating artists and performers build and create their works on site. The public are invited to witness this process with tours and open days to watch and learn about the artists and their work. It all culminates with a weekend long festival celebrating the results and showcasing performances, installations and works in progress.

Our event will take place this year from 5th – 18th July 2010.

Lab: Monday 5th – Thursday 15th July
Festival: Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th July

This year Underbelly Arts is moving to a new home and details of the venue will be announced on the website soon.

Underbelly Arts is not limited to any ‘type’ of artist, however we certainly like to support:
•    Artists in their first 5 years of practice
•    More established artists working with emerging artists
•    More established artists pushing themselves in new directions
•    Collectives of artists: either existing or newly formed
•    Artists experimenting and collaborating across mediums

We also encourage applicants who:
•    Want to take risks and challenge themselves in a supportive environment
•    Will benefit from a period of development, an examination of process and a celebration of outcome.

We like to support:
•    New work. HOWEVER, you may apply with an existing project as long as you show how your time spent at Underbelly will be pushing it in new and daring directions.

HOW TO APPLY
•    Download the Underbelly Arts Application PDF here
•    Answer each section (numbered 1-12) and send your document plus any support material to artists (at) underbelly.com.au
•    APPLICATIONS CLOSE FRIDAY 19TH MARCH
•    Successful projects will be notified by Friday 16th April.

NOTE TO ALL APPLICANTS
•    Applications will be selected by a Programming Committee
•    This year we will be selecting fewer projects to ensure better resources for artists.
•    These resources are still limited (equipment, materials, funds). If you can show where your project is self-sufficient this could benefit your application.
•    We also provide you with space, publicity, producing support and production support.
•    Each project must have a single contact nominated to liase with Underbelly Arts staff. This person will be required to check emails regularly and deliver requirements to deadlines. This person could be a producer, someone interested in learning how to be a producer, or an artist who is interested and keen to take on an organising role within the group.
•    There are no ‘artist fees’. All artists will receive a share of the ticket income, the terms of which will be negotiated between artists and event organisers.

NOTE TO PUBLIC ART PROJECTS
•    You are welcome to submit a proposal to develop a public art project in the Marrickville or City of Sydney Local Government Areas (as both these Councils are supporters of our event).
•    Keep in mind that our resources are limited and you would need to consider how you intend to manage the installation if it were to remain in place beyond the time frame of our event.

NOTE TO SITE SPECIFIC PROJECTS
•    Underbelly Arts is has not yet confirmed a venue, which makes it hard if you project is site specific to that venue!
•    You should email us to register your interest in submitting a proposal at artists (at) underbelly.com.au no later than the 5th March.
•    You are still required to complete part of your application by the 19th March due date with:
-  Parts 1-5 and 9-11 completed; PLUS
-  Any themes or ideas you are interested in exploring as a group.
•    You will be able to submit Parts 6, 7 & 8 at a later date.
•    This date will be sent to you in an email as soon as the venue is confirmed.
•    If you have any enquiries or are unclear about this process please email artists (at) underbelly.com.au

YOU CAN ALSO EMAIL artists (at) underbelly.com.au IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS RELATING TO THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Cheers & best of luck with your application
